At the closest elementary to our house, Chung Cheng Guo Shao, there is an old basketball court with decent surface and....chainlink fences all around! Plus there is a curb all the way around that acts kind a like boards, so it is PERFECT for practicing hockey. As long as you don't wear out your stick on the rough surface or wake the neighbors by hitting the basketball hoop posts too many times or doing too many slapshots! At any rate, this particular day, I hadn't touched my hockey stuff for a long time and decided to go just feel around. It was good :)

Skating in Hualien was very enjoyable. We took an old train from Yuli to Hualien that had open windows. Smoke would get in when we went through tunnels. Upon arriving at the train station, we put on our skates and rollerbladed through the city. We had lunch at KFC! There are no KFCs in Yuli. Then we went to a skate shop where I bought a pair of skates to supplement our arsenal of "rental" skates. The kids in our neighborhood have been borrowing a lot! The lady at the store let me try her sons speedskates. They were so weird, but cool! Then she told us about this skate park. We were tired, but we found it and tried to do some skating, and some of it actually turned out pretty decent!
