Two Poems/Songs

Shelley posted this one by John Newton on her blog. I like singing it.

I asked the Lord, that I might grow
In faith, and love, and every grace;
Might more of His salvation know,
And seek more earnestly His face.
I hoped that in some favored hour
At once He’d answer my request,
And by His love’s constraining power
Subdue my sins, and give me rest.
Instead of this, He made me feel
The hidden evils of my heart;
And let the angry powers of hell
Assault my soul in every part.
Yea more, with His own hand He seemed
Intent to aggravate my woe;
Crossed all the fair designs I schemed,
Blasted my gourds, and laid me low.
‘Lord, why is this?’ I trembling cried,
`Wilt thou pursue Thy worm to death?’
`This in this way,’ the Lord replied,
`I answer prayer for grace and faith.
'These inward trials I employ
From self and pride to set thee free;
And break thy schemes of earthly joy,
That thou mayst seek thy all in Me.’

I decide to write one too. It's in ambiguous punctuation and inter-line phrasing. I ended up singing it to 14 beats a line by accident yesterday. Today I tried to remember how I sang it yesterday, messed up and did 10 beats :s lol

Yes I need Him
Bless Him when in
Morning light dim
comes peeking out

Where I used to
Frightenedly do
only what you
put in my plate

Now I see sin
Is not bein
Harmless as men
Have made it look

Here there's light for
Us to take more
Steps in accord
With the right way

There is not one
Day I'd feel done
With seeing the Son
Just one more glimpse

I would die to
Passionedly use
All I've been through
To live God more

But I must go
Back to Him, bro
Ask you to know
It's praying still

So, friends, that's kinda where I'm at now! I have a lot of time to make up for, but God is CONSTANTLY teaching. God is good that way! Blessings :)
